WASHINGTON, D.C. – Penn College dropped a close 50-45 decision to Gallaudet in a United East women's basketball game Friday. The Wildcats fell to 3-6 United East, 4-12 overall, while the Bison improved to 7-2, 9-7.
How it happened: Penn College was balanced in the first quarter and led 11-5 at the end of the period. Gallaudet responded with a 14-7 second quarter to take a 19-18 edge at the break.
The Bison built a 34-28 lead with 2:14 left in the third quarter before jumpers from
Cassi Kuhns and
Rachel Teats pulled Penn College within two, 34-32, with 42 seconds on the clock. GU added a late layup to lead 36-32 after the third.
Teats' three with early in the fourth tied the game at 36-36 with 8:08 left in the game but the Bison answered with an 8-3 run to make it 44-39 with 4:20 on the clock. The Wildcats got as close as one, 46-45, on another Teats' trey with 1:31 on the clock but GU scored four unanswered to ice the win.
Inside the box: Teats finished with a game-high 18 points, on 7 of 17 shooting.
Cassidy Perry led three Bison in double figures with 14 points.
