ST. MARY'S, Md. — At United East unbeaten St. Mary's College on Saturday, the Penn College men's basketball team lost, 86-53, to drop to 4-13 overall and 3-6 in the conference. St. Mary's is 9-5, 8-0.
How it happened: The Wildcats built an early 8-2 lead, with four of the points coming on layups by
Max Jackowsky, before St. Mary's responded with a spurt to go ahead 10-9 with 14:31 left in the half. It was nip and tuck with several lead changes after that before the Seahawks pulled away over the last 6:49 for a
13-point, 41-28, halftime lead.
St. Mary's continued to add to its lead in the second half, going on top by 20 points at 53-33 with 15:26 to play and stretching its margin to 37 at 83-46 with 4:22 remaining before winning by 33.
Inside the box: Corey Blackwell and
Rees Watkins each scored nine points to lead the Wildcats.
Daryn Alexander topped four St. Mary's players in double figures with 14 points.
