WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Hosting Wells College in United East play on Tuesday, the Penn College men's basketball team lost, 70-54, to drop to 4-14 overall and 4-7 in the conference. Wells is 12-8, 6-5.
How it happened: In a closely contested first half, Penn College scored the first four points before Wells took its first lead at 5-4. At the 15:17 mark, the Wildcats again went ahead by four, 11-7, on a 3-pointer by
Chris Coyne before Wells came back and forced ties at 11 and 13, and then went out in front by five at 18-13. A six-point run lifted Penn College back into the lead and it stretched its lead to four twice before closing out the half on top, 31-29, thanks to a trey by
Corey Blackwell with eight seconds remaining.
The second half was another story, however, as the Chargers opened with a 14-0 run to take a 43-31 lead with 14:13 to play and never trailed by fewer than eight points the rest of the way while leading by as many as 20 at 70-50 with 1:58 to go.
Penn College made 41% of its shots in the opening half but dropped to 34% in the second half, while Wells shot 32% in the first half and 47% in the second half. For the game, Wells outscored the Wildcats in points off turnovers, 21-8.
Inside the box: Gavin Barrett topped Penn College scorers with 14 points and dished out five assists, while
Will Sulesky led the team with nine rebounds.
Jarek Feliz and Jalen Feliz led five Wells players scoring in double digits with 15 points each.
