ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - Penn College defeated St. Mary's College of Maryland in a United East matchup Saturday afternoon, 3-2. The Wildcats improved to 4-6-1 on the season, 3-1 UE, while the Seahawks fell to 4-5-4 overall, 3-1 UE.
How it happened: The Wildcats were poised and focused for a tough battle on the road.
Wiley Egan notched the first goal of the game on a pass from
Sara Darlington to take an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute. The Wildcats kept the pressure on as
Kaelynn Sheetz netted her first goal of the game on a pass from
Wiley Egan to increase the lead to 2-0 in the 17th minute. Just over six minutes later, Sheetz scored another goal as Darlington picked up her second assist and the Wildcats went up 3-0. The Seahawks tried to battle back and tallied a lone goal as the two teams went into halftime, 3-1.
St. Mary's added another goal early in the second half to close the gap to 3-2. But the Wildcats defense would not allow another goal as they secured the win.
Nicole Lichtinger picked up 5 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
Inside the box: The Seawhalks outshot the Wildcats, 15-11, and held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks.
