AURORA, N.Y. – Penn College concluded the regular season with a 6-1 win over Wells College in a United East women's soccer match Saturday. The Wildcats won their fourth-straight match and improved to 6-2 United East, 9-8-1 overall, while the Express fell to 1-7, 1-13-1.
Penn College locked up the third seed in the upcoming United East playoffs. The final United East standings and playoff matchups will be finalized Sunday at the conclusion of the final conference match.
How it happened: The Wildcats took an early 1-0 lead when Lexy Hunselman found Sara Darlington in the 13
th minutes. Wells evened the game early in the second half on an unassisted tally in the 51
st minute before Penn College netted five unanswered goals.
Kaelynn Sheetz struck in the 56
th minute and Darlington found the back of the net in the 63
rd to give PCT 3-1 lead. Darlington found Cassie Johnson in the 67
th minute before Johnson connected with Billiegean Hennessy in the 79
th minute and Sheetz in the 87
th.
Inside the box: Penn College out shot Wells, 44-6, and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Nicole Lichtinger turned away three shots in goal.
Breaking Records: Johnson broke the NCAA-Era record for assists in a season, previously held by Hailee Hartman with nine, and finished the season with 11 helpers. She also became the first player in program history to reach the 10/10 Club, with 10 goals and 11 assists this season.
Sheetz' performance on Saturday gave her a program-record 21 goals in a season.
