WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College's men's basketball team scored an 83-65 win over Elmira College on Tuesday in the nonconference season opener for both teams. Penn College now is 1-0. Elmira College is 0-1.
How it Happened: After nearly two minutes of scoreless opening play, Rees Watkins put Penn College on the board with a layup. After three ties — the last at 7-all — the Wildcats went on a 13-0 run, with Gavin Barrett connecting on three 3-point shots, and eventually built a 20-point lead before closing out the half in front by 18, 47-29. During the first half, Barrett scored 12 points, Obens Luxama had 11 and Watkins 8. Penn College continued to pull away in the second half, building its largest lead of 27 points at 76-49 with 4:19 to play.
Inside the Box: Luxama finished with a team-high 19 points for the Wildcats, while Barrett added 14 points and Watkins 13 points. Will Sulesky topped Penn College with 10 rebounds. Elmira's Bryan Adams led all scorers with 22 points. The Wildcats shot 45% from the field (29 of 64) and made 47% of its 3-point shots (9 of 19).
