WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College surrendered a 40-38 fourth quarter lead, as Elmira outscored the Wildcats, 22-7, in the final period, en route a 57-45 win in a nonconference women's basketball game Tuesday. The Eagles improved to 1-0, while Penn College fell to 0-1.
How it happened: Deadlocked at 7-7 early in the first quarter, the Wildcats used an 8-0 run to take a 15-7 lead on a Rachel Teats three with 3:25 left in the first quarter. Elmira ended the quarter with a 5-0 run to cut into PCT's lead, 15-12. The second quarter saw the game tied twice, and the lead change four times, before the Wildcats took a 27-25 lead at halftime.
Kayleigh Miller's three, with 6:48 left in the third gave Penn College its largest lead of the second half, 33-27. The Eagles countered with a 6-0 spurt to even the game at 33, but Ja'Quela hit two free throws, and Teats a three to help PCT maintain a 38-35 lead at the end of the third. The Eagles outscored the Wildcats 22-7 in the fourth to secure the win.
Inside the box:Teats scored a team-high 17 points for Penn College and Dyer finished with a double-double, with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Desiree Ros led all scorers with 19 points for Elmira, while Olivia Ayres added 17.
