Penn College podiums five at RIT

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Penn College came away with one individual second-place finish, two thirds, one fifth and one sixth-place finish at the RIT Invitational Saturday.

Isaac Cory, seeded No. 1, in the 184-pound weight class, won his first four matches — three by pin — on his way to a second-place finish. The No. 3 ranked wrestler in the NCAA Mideast Region at 184lbs earned a 5-3 decision over Stefan Farian of John Carroll and a 19-7 major decision over the ECWC Conference Runner-Up, Bryce Smith of Oswego to earn his second trip to the tournament finals in as many tries. Cory was medically defaulted from the finals and improved to 10-0 on the season.

Noah Hunt, seeded second, capped a 5-1 day with a win by major decision in the 141-pound third-place consolation match. Hunt rattled off three straight bonus point wins to set up a semi-final with No. 4 ranked 141lbs in the Northeast Region, Scott Richter of Williams. After suffering a defeat from the Williams opponent, Hunt slid to the bronze medal bout and put up an offensive 13 points to earn his first tournament bronze medal of his career.
Ryan Berstler, seeded fourth, ended 5-1 on the day with a decision win in the third-place consolation bout at 125.

Pat Snoke entered the tournament as a No. 4 seed and earned two bonus points wins to set up a semi-final with returning NCAA Finalist and current No. 2 nationally ranked 133lber in Andrew Perelka of John Carroll. Snoke got the first takedown of the match 2-0 and fought hard through the match to hold a 4-3 lead on the returning national runner-up. Perelka ended up widening the margin with a pair of takedowns and beat Snoke 10-4 to put him in the consolation bracket.

Snoke was upended by No. 2 seed Adam Schaeublin of Trinity to drop to the fifth-place bout. Snoke earned a victory by medical forfeit to earn a fifth-place finish and his second tournament medal of the season.

Also for Penn College, Mason Leshock, seeded fifth, went 3-0 — all by fall — and ended sixth at 165 after medical forfeiting his last two bouts.
