NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. — Wrapping up its week in South Carolina, the Penn College softball team lost 1-0 to Lebanon Valley College before blanking Cairn University, 11-0, in nonconference play Friday. Penn College is 4-3. Lebanon Valley is 4-2. Cairn University is 2-5.

Lebanon Valley pitcher Erin Sinatra went the seven-inning distance, tossing a two-hitter while striking out 14 and walking none, in out dueling Penn College starter Mackenzie Weaver, who allowed six hits, fanned six and walked three. The Flying Dutchmen scored the game's lone run in the bottom of the third.

Against Cairn, Penn College had the dominant pitcher in Kyla Benner, who allowed just three hits while striking out six and walking none in five innings of work to improve to 3-1. On offense, the Wildcats pushed across three runs in both the first and third innings and added five more in the fourth. Leading the way were Weaver and Jaylynn Cochran, who each had two hits and drove in two runs; Jordan Specht, who had two hits and scored three times; and Maddie Hurst, who had two triples and scored twice. Hurst led off the bottom of the first with her first triple and, after advancing two bases on walks, scored on a passed ball for the only run her team would need.

Penn College is scheduled to return to action at Susquehanna University at 3 p.m. on Wednesday.
