SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Penn College dropped a nonconference softball doubleheader to Susquehanna University Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 4-5 overall after a 6-2 loss in the first game and an 8-0 setback in the nightcap.

How it happened: In game one, the River Hawks took an early 3-0 lead in the second inning before Penn College closed the gap with an RBI single by Maddie Hurst in the third and a wild pitch that plated Margaret Mangene in the fourth. SU added a run in the fifth and two in the sixth.

In game two, the Hawks limited Penn College to just one hit and scored a run in the second, three in third and two in both the fourth and sixth innings.

Kyla Benner fell to 3-2 after five innings in game one. She allowed four earned runs, on six hits, with two strikeouts and two walks.

Mackenzie Weaver dropped to 1-2 after 5.2 innings of work in game two. She surrendered five earned runs, on 10 hits, with one strikeout and two walks.

Up next: Penn College opens conference play Friday at Lancaster Bible College and Saturday at Gallaudet.
