Wildcats Open United East Conference Play With Split

LANCASTER, PA: Penn College opened up United East Conference play with a split on the road.  The Wildcats won game one by a score of 15-5; before dropping game two 7-3.  The Wildcats are 7-7 overall 1-1 UEC while Lancaster Bible is 6-8 overall and 1-1 in the UEC.

In Game One,
Penn College got the bats going in the top of the first inning as they plated six runs to take an early lead that they would not relinquish.  Kolten Smith knocked in two RBIs in the inning with a single to right center scoring Brian Robison and Nathan Gustkey.
Leading 7-0 after the top of the second inning, Lancaster Bible started to chip away at the lead and trimmed the score to 7-5 after four innings of play.
The Wildcats put the game to rest in the top of the seventh inning with eight runs to increase their lead to 15-5.  Penn College collected eight hits in the inning with Tristan Current lacing a two-RBI double down the left field line.
Five Wildcats had multi-hit efforts in the game.  Robison paved the way with a 3-for-4 effort from the plate.  Zac Weaver (2-1) notched the Wildcats first United East Conference win of the season.  Weaver scattered seven hits, five runs (three earned) while striking out four in four innings pitched.  Samuel Ziegler pitched extremely well in relief allowing one hit while striking out five in three innings of work.

In Game Two,
Trailing 2-0 in game two, the Wildcats scored a run in the top of the third inning on a Jake Wagner single to right to trim the Chargers lead to 2-1.  Unfortunately, that would be the closest the Wildcats would get as Lancaster Bible opened up a 7-1 lead after five innings; a lead in which they would not relinquish.

Trailing 7-2 in the top of the ninth Penn College loaded the bases with no outs.; however they were only able to muster up one run as the Chargers closed out the game with a 7-3 victory.

Cameron Dick led the Wildcats with two hits while Jacob Carles blasted his third home run of the season.  Ben Bretzman (0-2) took the loss on the mound after giving up eight hits and seven runs over seven innings pitched.

The Wildcats and Chargers conclude their three game series tomorrow at Lancaster Bible.  First pitch is scheduled for 11 am.
