WASHINGTON, D.C. – Penn College swept a United East softball doubleheader against Gallaudet Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 4-0 United East, 8-5 overall after a 12-0 win over the Bison in the first game and a 20-2 victory in the second contest.
How it happened: In game one, Penn College took an early 7-0 lead after the second inning before tacking on four in the fourth and one in the fifth.
In game two, the Wildcats' bats were hot early with 11 runs the first inning, three in the second, two in the third, and four in the fifth.
Inside the box:
Jordan Specht sparked the offense in the first game with three hits and two RBI.
Olivia Hemstock and
Ivvy Morder each picked up a pair hits, while Jaylin Cochran and Hemstock finished with 2 RBI each.
Mackenzie Weaver picked up the win in the circle after four innings of work. She surrendered just one hit, struck out four and walked zero batters.
Hemstock brought in six runs on four hits for Penn College in the second game.
Hailey DeBrody finished 4 for 5 with three RBI, while Specht smacked two doubles and
Maddie Hurst and
Margaret Mangene both picked up a pair of hits.
Kyla Benner improved to 5-2 after five innings in the circle. She allowed two runs, on five hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk.
