MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College swept a softball doubleheader against King's College Tuesday. The Wildcats won the first game, 4-2, before taking the nightcap, 9-0. Penn College improved to 3-1, while the Monarchs fell to 4-2.
In game one,
Jordan Specht gave Penn College an early 1-0 lead with a double to center in the first inning before
Margaret Mangene made it 2-0 on a single up the middle. King's made it 2-1 in the third and tied the game in the top of the fifth inning. Specht smacked a two-run homer to center field to plate
Maddie Hurst and the go-ahead runs.
Specht and Mangene each picked up two hits and Specht brought in a game-high three runs.
Kyla Benner improved to 2-0 in the circle. She allowed one earned run, on eight hits, with four strikeouts and one walk.
In game two,
Penn College took a 3-0 lead with a bases loaded walk by
Madison Shaffer and an error that plated two runs in the second inning.
Olivia Eisenhauer stroked a two-run single in the third and Specht's double in the fourth made it 6-0. Shaffer's RBI single and
Maddie Hurst's two-run single in the seventh brought home Penn College's final runs.
Eisenhauer, Hurst, Mangene, and Jaylin Cochran all picked up two hits to lead the offense.
Mackenzie Weaver improved to 1-0 after firing a complete-game shutout. She scattered three hits, with seven strikeouts and one walk.
