WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College tennis teams defeated Penn State Berks in United East play on Tuesday, the men winning 5-4 and the women 9-0. The Wildcat men now are 1-2 in the conference and 6-4 overall while the women are 1-2, 2-9. The Berks men are 0-2, 2-5 and its women are 1-1, 2-6.
How it happened: Penn College men won three singles and two doubles matches for their victory while the Wildcat women captured all six singles and three doubles matches.
Inside the box: Winning for the Penn College men were Tucker Phillippe-Johansson at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-3; Paul Langbein at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0; Jesse Kight at No. 3 singles, 6-7, 6-0, 6-0; and in doubles, Phillippe-Johansson/Langbein at No. 1, 8-2, and Kight/Tommy Cavanagh at No. 2, 8-3.
Tasting victory in singles for the Penn College women were Delaney Bouton at No. 1, 5-7, 6-2, 14-12; Mary Kathryn Hillman at No. 2, 6-1, 6-1; Georgia Macensky at No. 3, 6-4, 6-3; Amber Leitzel at No. 4, 8-0; Alexis Youse at No. 5, 6-0, 6-1; and Sostika Rai at No. 6, 6-0, 6-2. Doubles winners were Bouton/Hillman at No. 1, 8-1; Macensky/Leitzel at No. 2, 8-1; and Youse/Rai at No. 3, 8-0.
