Wildcats Comeback Falls Short

WILLIAMSPORT, PA:  Penn College clawed back in the bottom of the ninth inning but came up just short as they fell to Penn State Abington 10-7 on Saturday afternoon.  The Wildcats drop to 15-13 overall and 9-6 in the United East Conference.  The Nittany Lion's improved to 22-9 overall and 11-4 in the UEC.

How it happened: Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning, Cameron Dick ripped a double to right center that scored Jacob Carles with the tying run.  In the bottom of the fifth inning Connor Burke singled to center to tie the game up at 2-2.  After allowing four runs in the top of the sixth inning Dick once again plated a run, this time on a single down the left field line that scored Carles to cut into the Nittany Lion's lead at 6-3.

The Nittany Lions tacked on four insurance runs over the final three innings of play to lead 10-4 heading into the bottom of the ninth inning.  The Wildcats loaded the bases with one out and scored their fifth run of the game on a Carles RBI walk.  Dick then continued his hot day at the plate with a two RBI double just inside the third base line to trim the deficit to 10-7.  With runners on second and third and one out Penn State Abington was able to get out of the jam with a strikeout and ground out to second.

In the box: The Wildcats out hit the Nittany Lions 13-12 on the day.  Dick finished 4-for-5 with four RBI's.  Jake Wagner, Carles and Burke all multi-hit efforts in the loss.  Ben Bretzman (2-4) took the loss allowing six runs (four earned) in 5.2 innings of work.  Bretzman allowed nine hits while striking out five batters.

The Wildcats return to action with a doubleheader at Juniata on Wednesday.  First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 pm.
