ST. MARY'S CITY, MD: Penn College snapped their three-game United East Conference losing skid on Friday, beating St. Mary's by a score of 13-4. Penn College improves to 16-13 overall and 10-6 in UEC play. St. Mary's falls to 11-11 overall and 7-8 UEC.
How it Happened: Penn College got the bats going early scoring two runs in the first, second and third innings to take an early 6-0 lead after three innings of play.
Cameron Dick and
Shane Price had RBI hits in the first inning, while
Nathan Gustkey and
Jake Burgess had RBI singles in the top of the third inning. Penn College broke the game open for good in top of the sixth inning when they plated four runs.
Jake Wagner,
Brian Robison and Gustkey all had RBI singles in the inning. The final three runs scored by the Wildcats came in the top of the 7th which included a RBI triple to right center by
Anthony Barbella.
In the box: Samuel Zeigler notched his fifth win of the season allowing two runs on five hits in 6.2 innings of work. Zeigler struck out seven and allowed just one walk. The Wildcats offense pounded out a total of 18 hits on the afternoon. Eight different batters recorded multi-hit efforts with
Tyler Rudolph and Robison paving the way with three-hit performances.
Penn College and St. Mary's will conclude their three-game series tomorrow afternoon with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
