WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College swept Lancaster Bible College in a United East softball doubleheader Saturday. The Wildcats increased its winning streak to a program-record 11 games following a 2-0 win the first contest and a 7-1 rain-shortened victory in game two. Penn College improved to 15-1 United East, 19-6 overall.
How it happened:
Madison Shaffer broke a scoreless deadlock in the fourth inning of game one when she singled in
Ivvy Morder to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Olivia Hemstock added an insurance run in the sixth with a single to right to plate Jaylin Cochran.
Bible took an early 1-0 lead with a run in the first in game two before a wild pitch and a sacrifice fly from Morder in the second made it 2-1. The Wildcats added three in the third on RBI singles by Benner,
Margaret Mangene, and Shaffer.
Hailey DeBrody's one-run double in the fourth made it 6-1 and Cochran's double to center put PCT ahead 7-1 before the game was eventually ended due to rain.
Inside the box: Hemstock and Shaffer both finished with three hits for Penn College in game one, while
Kyla Benner added two hits.
Benner improved to 10-3 after a complete-game two-hitter. She struck out a season-high 12 batters and walked no one.
Benner led Penn College's offense in the second game with two hits.
Mackenzie Weaver improved to 9-2 after five innings of work. She allowed one unearned run, on six hits, with eight strikeouts, and two walks.
