HAMBURG, N.Y. — Penn College downed Hilbert College, 16-10, in a men's lacrosse United East match on Saturday. Penn College is 5-5 overall and 1-1 in the conference. Hilbert is 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the UE.
How it happened: Trailing 4-3 after one period, the Wildcats erupted with eight second-quarter goals and then outscored Hilbert 5-3 in the second half for their win. Brendan Kuczma evened the match at 4-all with 14:30 to go in the second and the score was tied again at 5-, 6- and 7-all before James Thatcher put Penn College ahead for good at 8-7 with 6:58 left in the period off a pass from Quinn Caviola.
Inside the box: Caviola ended the day with seven goals, while Thatcher had two goals and seven assists, and Kuczma, Sam Hills and Devin Page each added two goals. Also for the Wildcats, Michael Stank won 16 of 17 faceoffs. In goal, James Cella started, made eight saves in three periods and earned the win, while Chad Szatkowski had five saves in the fourth quarter. Penn College led in shots, 43-35, and in shots on goal, 29-23.
