Wildcat teams lose to King’s in tennis

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Penn College men's and women's tennis teams dropped their spring season nonconference openers on Saturday at King's College, the men by 6-3 and the women 9-0. The Wildcat men are 5-2 overall (5-1 in the fall) and the women are 1-7 (1-6 fall). King's men improved to 4-6 and its women are 1-9.

How it happened: The Wildcat men dropped five of six singles matches but took two of three in doubles for their points, while the women lost all six singles and three doubles matches. The men's loss snapped a five-match win streak dating to last fall.

Inside the box: Posting wins for the Penn College men were Paul Langbein at No. 2 singles, 7-5, 6-1; and Langbein/Tucker Phillippe-Johansson at No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and Alex Norris/Jesse Kight at No. 2 doubles, 8-7 (8-6 tiebreaker). The three wins were the most ever for the Wildcats in a match against King's.

The most competitive matches for the Penn College women came at No. 1 singles, where Delaney Bouton lost, 6-3, 6-1; and in doubles where Bouton/Mary Kathryn Hillman lost at No. 1, 8-7 (9-7 tiebreaker) and Georgia Macensky/Amber Leitzel fell at No. 2, 8-7 (7-4 tiebreaker.)
