Benner is perfect – again

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Kyla Benner tossed her second perfect game of the season to help Penn College to a doubleheader sweep against Morrisville in a United East softball doubleheader Friday. The Wildcats extended their winning streak to a program-record 15 games, and improved to 19-1 United East, 23-6 overall, following an 8-0 win in the first game and 10-0 victory in the nightcap.

Inside the box: Benner struck out 13 of 15 batters she faced in the first game and improved to 12-3 following her third career perfect outing.

Olivia Hemstock was responsible for Penn College's first three runs after an RBI double in the first, scoring on a wild pitch and bringing in a run with a single in the second. The Wildcats added five in the fourth when Jordan Specht drew a bases loaded walk, Hailey DeBrody sacrificed to right, Margaret Mangene singled to center, and Ivvy Morder launched a two-run double to left.

Mackenzie Weaver improved to 11-2 after a complete-game two-hit shutout in game two. The freshman struck out 10 and walked zero batters.

Hemstock's double and Mangene's sacrifice put Penn College ahead 2-0 in the first. Maddie Hurst stole home in the second and a wild pitch plated Hemstock to make it 4-0. The Wildcats tacked on six in the third with a three-run double from Specht, Hurst's one-run double to left, and Mangene's RBI single to right.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 3 p.m., at Penn State Abington.
