Wildcats Give Up Late Lead vs. Penn State Berks

WILLIAMSPORT, PA:  After taking a lead in the bottom of the seventh inning the Penn College Wildcats were unable to hold onto their lead as they dropped game one of a three game series to Penn State Berks by a score of 6-5.  Penn College falls to 18-16 overall (11-8 UE) while Penn State Berks improves to 16-15 overall and (9-10 UE).

How it Happened:  Trailing 4-1 after the top of the fifth inning, Penn College rallied to take a 5-4 lead after plating runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings.  Jake Wagner had a RBI single to right in the fifth, Shane Price laced a RBI single down the left field line in the sixth to cut the deficit to 4-3.  In the bottom of the seventh Connor Burke tied the game with single to right center and Price gave the Wildcats a 5-4 lead with a single through the right side.  Unfortunately, the Wildcats were not able to hold onto the lead as Penn State Berks scored the game winning runs in the top of the eighth inning as they held on to win 6-5.

In the Box:  Penn College had 10 hits on the days.  Jacob Carles and Price finished with two hits apiece.  Zac Weaver (2-3) picked up the loss in relief.  Weaver allowed two runs (one earned) in 3.2 innings of work.  He scattered five hits while picking up five strikeouts.

The Wildcats conclude their regular season tomorrow at home with a doubleheader against Penn State Berks.  First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
