WILLAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College overcame a 3-2 halftime deficit with a late score to tie Shenandoah, 3-3, in a nonconference men's soccer match Saturday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats improved to 0-2-1, while the Hornets improved to 1-1-1.
How it happened:
Dylan Dailey's strike from 20-yards out in the 84
th minute knotted the game at 3-3 and
Cole Catherman anchored a short-handed Wildcats with two clutch saves in the final six minutes to secure the result.
Penn College took an early 1-0 lead when
Gabriel McKeon headed
Spencer Price's cross to the bottom left of the goal in the 15
th minute.
Logan Stapleton's deposit of
Nathan Schwartz' pass in the 26
th minute gave the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. SU responded with three-straight scores – including an own goal – to take a 3-2 lead at the break.
Catherman prevented more damage in the second half with three stops leading up to the final six minutes of the match and the Wildcats showed grit by playing a man-down the final 28 minutes of the game.
Inside the box: Shenandoah outshot Penn College, 21-6 (15-6 on-goal) and owned a 14-2 advantage on corner kicks.
Catherman finished with 12 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
