WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College finished the weekend defeating Gwynedd Mercy University, 9-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match Sunday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats improved 3-5-1 on the year, while the Griffins fell to 2-5-3.
How it happened: Penn College Wildcats' offense came out attacking from the start. The Wildcats put multiple shots on goal to open the game and they finally reached the scoreboard with a penalty kick from
Sara Darlington in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead.
Kaelynn Sheetz netted a goal four minutes later on a pass from
Cassie Johnson; and then the dynamic duo switched roles when Johnson scored her own goal on a pass from Sheetz as the Wildcats took a 3-0 halftime lead.
Darlington added her second goal of the game to open the second half and help the Wildcats take a 4-0 lead. The offensive attack continued as Johnson scored again in the 54th minute on a pass from
Wiley Egan. One minute later, Sheetz scored her second goal of the game to build the lead to 6-0. Darlington and Sheetz both netted a goal apiece in the 58th minute. And
Teagan Willey scored the final goal of the game on an assist from
Jaci Hunsberger as the Wildcats went on to win 9-0.
Nicole Lichtinger notched 2 saves in goal for the Wildcats.
Inside the box: Penn College outshot the Griffins, 38-2, and held a 5-1 advantage on corner kicks.
