WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College played tough down the stretch to edge Penn State Berks, 51-49, in a United East home women's basketball game on Wednesday. Penn College now is 1-2 in the conference and 2-10 overall. Penn State Berks is 1-3 UE and 1-9 overall.
How it happened: Trailing by three points after three quarters, the two teams battled back-and-forth over the last 10 minutes with each team leading by as many as three once and the score tied five times, the last time at 49-all. With three seconds showing on the clock, Penn College's
Lexi Troup drove to the hoop and scored on a layup to secure the win.
Earlier, Berks led by four points (12-8) in the opening period before the Wildcats rallied behind
Rachel Teats to pull ahead by five (21-16) with 8:06 left in the second frame. Berks went ahead by five (34-29) midway through the third and led 36-35 at the turn for home.
Inside the box: Teats finished with a game-high 18 points and
Kayleigh Miller added 10 points for the Wildcats, while
Emily Pardee led the team with seven rebounds.
Hailey Miller topped PS Berks with 13 points.
