WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College held off a strong second half push from Gallaudet and secured a 68-63 win in a United East men's basketball game Friday. The Wildcats improved 2-4 United East, 7-8 overall, while the Bison fell to 0-6, 1-14.
How it happened: After Gallaudet took a 16-15 lead with 6:54 left in the first half, Penn College went on 10-2 run and took a 25-18 lead on a pair of
Rees Watkins free throws with 3:57 left in the half. A pair of
Alec Cooper freebies gave the Wildcats their largest lead, 29-20, before leading 29-22 at the break.
The Bison opened the second half with a 19-10 run, and a 39-36 lead with 12:33 left in the game. After two deadlocks, Penn College took the lead for good after a pair of free throws from
Will Sulesky made it 45-44 with 7:52 left and led by as many as eight, 59-51, on Cooper's three with 2:38 remaining.
Inside the box: Cooper and
Rees Watkins both scored 15,
Livingston Cross added 14, and
Max Jackowsky finished with 12.
Gavin Barrett dished out a game-high 10 assists.
Preston Kelly scored a game-high 22 for Gallaudet.
