WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College overcame a 37-32 halftime deficit and knocked off St. Mary's, 71-64, in a United East men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 3-4 UE, 8-8 overall, while the Seahawks fell to 3-4, 8-8.
How it happened: Penn College opened the second half with an 8-2 run to tie the game at 40-40 after a pair of
Rees Watkins free throws with 17:12 left in the game. The Seahawks regained a 53-46 lead with 10:41 on the clock but the Wildcats answered with 8-1 spurt to tie the game at 54-54 on a
Livingston Cross free throw with 6:10 left.
Cross tied the game again, 58-58, on a traditional three-point play with 3:56 remaining and the Wildcats never trailed the remainder of the game.
Inside the box:
Gavin Barrett finished with a game-high 22 points and game-best six assists for Penn College. Cross added 13 and Watkins and Livingston both finished with a team-best eight rebounds.
Daryn Alexander led St. Mary's with 17 points.
