ABINGTON, Pa. –
Max Jackowsky's three-point attempt at the buzzer hit the back of the iron as Penn College fell to Penn State Abington, 73-71, in a United East men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 3-5 United East, 8-9 overall, while the Nittany Lions improved to 6-2, 12-5.
How it happened:
Gavin Barrett's free throw with 3:49 left in the game deadlocked the contest at 67. Abington responded with a 6-0 run to take a 73-67 advantage with just over two minutes remaining. A pair of free throws from
Will Sulesky, and a
Rees Watkins jumper, put the Wildcats within two, 73-71, with 1:25 on the clock. Abington had two looks to pad its lead but both attempts fell short to set up Jackowsky's buzzer-beating attempt.
The Lions led 40-39 at halftime in a game that saw the lead change 19 times and the contest deadlocked on 14 occasions.
Inside the box: Barrett finished with a game-high 29 points, while
Livingston Cross finished with 12. Sulesky and Cross grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
