Wildcats upend Morrisville in OT

MORRISVILLE, N.Y. — On the road at United East once-beaten Morrisville State University on Saturday, Penn College won, 67-63 in overtime, in women's basketball. Penn College now is 5-4 in the conference and 6-12 overall, while Morrisville is 8-2 UE and 12-7 overall. The Wildcats' win avenged an earlier home loss to Morrisville.

How it happened: Penn College led 2-0 on Emily Pardee's layup with 8:33 left in the opening period before the Mustangs went ahead and led 14-6 at the quarter's end. Morrisville upped its lead to 14 in the second frame at 25-11, then the Wildcats put together a 10-4 run — with Ja'Quela Dyer scoring five points and Kayleigh Miller three — to close out the half down by eight at 29-21.

In the third quarter, Penn College continued to chip away, outscoring the Mustangs 16-6, behind Miller's six points, and taking a 37-35 lead with 41 seconds left on a Dyer jump shot. There were three early lead changes in the fourth, with Morrisville going out in front by three twice, and the Wildcats going up by five three times, the last on a Rachel Teats jumper at 53-48 with 1:58 left before Morrisville scored the last five points of the quarter to send the game into overtime tied at 53.

In the overtime, Lexi Troup drilled a trey to open the scoring and Penn College never trailed as it outscored the Mustangs 14-10 for its win.
