WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — With its United East playoff hopes on the line Saturday against a team it never has beaten, Penn College went five sets before falling, 3-2, in a home loss to Penn State Abington. Penn College now is 4-16 overall and 0-5 in the UE. PS Abington is 10-13 overall and 1-3 in the conference.
How it happened: Abington took the first set, 25-19, before the Wildcats rallied to win the next two, 25-20 and 25-15. Abington evened things at two-all with a 25-15 fourth-set win, and then sealed its victory by taking the fifth set, 15-9.
Inside the box: Coryn Oswald led Penn College with 16 digs and 14 kills, and Cheyenne Stein led with six aces and 33 assists. PS Abington leaders were Jayla Hickey with 13 kills, Laine Kulpinski with 11 aces and 27 assists, and Morgan Schaefer with 21 digs.
Up next: Penn College ends its season hosting St. Mary's (Md.) College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 28.
