BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- No. 23 Penn College defeated No. 19 Oswego en route to a 3-0 day at the Brockport Quad Meet. The Wildcats begin their dual season with the 3-0 start following team scores of 30-19 against the Lakers, 46-11 against Niagara Community College and 39-12 against the host Golden Eagles.
How it happened: The Wildcats got off to a hot start in a clash of top-25 ranked teams. After Oswego win by decision at 125 pounds,
Kaden Ware won by 5-4 decision at 133 pounds to start a string of five-straight Wildcat victories.
Noah Hunt and
TJ Martin both earned pins at 141 and 149 pounds, respectively.
Cavin Napoletano won via tech fall (16-1) in a minute and seven seconds and
Travis Green picked up a major decision (14-5) at 165-pounds. Back-to-back pins at 174 and 184 and a major decision at 197 pounds pulled the Lakers within five (24-19) before Nicolai Brotzman sealed the dual victory with a pin in 5:46.
Against Niagara,
CJ Trimber (133), Hunt,
Kayden Frame (174) and Brotzman (285) collected forfeits while Martin earned a 19-3 tech fall in 2:56 at 149-pounds and
Mason Leshock posted a 18-2 tech fall in two minutes at 174-pounds. Green (165), and Gabe Kennedy-Citeroni (197) collected pins for a 46-11 final.
In the final dual of the day against Brockport, Ware (133), won by a 12-4 major decision to go 2-0 on the day and start a run of six-straight Wildcat wins to build an insurmountable lead for the host. Hunt earned his third victory with a 9-2 decision at 141 and Martin pinned his Brockport foe in 4:20 for a 3-0 day. Napoletano posted a 18-1 tech fall for a 2-0 afternoon and Green followed with a 18-2 tech fall of his own at 165. Leshock bumped to 174 to pick up a key six points in the team score with a fall in 2:42. Kennedy-Citeroni and Brotzman closed out the dual at 197-pounds and heavyweight with a 12-1 major decision and a first-period pin, respectively.Â
Inside the box: Martin earned a key victory against Oswego's Tyler Rossini, who is ranked sixth in the Mideast Region, in the first dual of the day. Martin overturned a 8-5 loss to Rossini at the Ithaca Invite to a first-period pin a week later.Â
Four grapplers posted a perfet 3-0 day in Hunt (141), Martin (149), Green (165) and Brotzman (285). Ware (133) and Napoletano (157) went 2-0 to earn team points while
Patrick Snoke (141) earned two victories in extra match-ups.
