WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg used a 9-3 run in the final 2:36, to edge Penn College, 74-68, in a United East men's basketball game Tuesday. The Wildcats fell to 0-1 United East, 3-5 overall, while the Nittany Lions improved to 1-0, 6-1.
How it happened: Harrisburg opened the game with a 16-5 lead with 14:27 left in the first half before PCT answered with a 16-4 spurt to take a 21-20 lead on a pair of
Max Jackowsky free throws with 9:10 remaining. Following two more deadlocks, the Wildcats took its largest lead of the half with four straight points from
Alec Cooper to lead 27-22 with 3:21 remaining before the break. The Lions responded with five straight point to tie the game at 27, but Penn College ended the half with a 7-4 run to lead 34-31 at halftime.
The opening four minutes of the second half saw the game tied twice before Harrisburg built a 46-42 lead with 15:25 left in the game. Penn College used a 9-3 run to lead 51-48 on a Jackowsky layup with 11:55 remaining. The Lions rallied to build a 58-53 advantage but PCT answered with a 7-2 spurt, and tied the game on
Livingston Cross' three with 6:08 remaining. Penn College took its final lead, 65-64, on a Barrett long ball, setting up the final two minutes and change of the game.
Inside the box: Barrett led Penn College with 13 points and six assists, while Jackowsky and Cooper added 10 points for the Wildcats. Jackowsky also grabbed a team-best six rebounds.
Donyae Baylor-Carrol led all scorers with 19 points for Harrisburg.
