GRANTHAM, Pa. — Penn College's wrestling team finished 1-2 Saturday at the Messiah University Chocolate Duals, falling to No. 8-ranked Johnson & Wales, 42-9, and Shenandoah, 25-24, via criteria. The Wildcats finished the day topping Ohio Wesleyan, 31-15.
The Wildcats now are 4-2 in dual meets this season while Johnson & Wales, which went 3-0 on Saturday, is 6-2 and Ohio Wesleyan, which went winless in three matches, is 1-6 overall.
How it happened against Johnson and Wales: Patrick Snoke won by decision at 141 pounds against Jake Eckerle, ranked sixth in the Northeast Region. In a battle of seventh-ranked regional grapplers, TJ Martin scored a fall at 149 over Jordan Suarez (No. 7 in the Northeast Region) for all of the team's points.
How it happened against Shenandoah: Luke Heimbach (125), Kaden Ware (133) and Martin (149) all won major decisions, while Liam Goodrich (165) and Nicholai Brotzman (285) posted falls, but a forfeit at 184 proved costly.
How it happened against Ohio Wesleyan: In competitive matches, Heimbach (125) won by decision to complete a 2-1 day, Ware (133) scored a technical fall to complete a 2-1 day. Cavin Napoletano (157) scored a technical fall, Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni (197) won with a fall. Brotzman (285) also won with a fall to complete a 2-1 day. Martin (149) won by forfeit to end 3-0 on the day.
The Wildcats also fielded a second team that lost to Messiah College 2, 39-16. Scoring points in competitive matches for Penn College were Michael Sandacz with a fall at 125 and Anton Esterbrook with a major decision at 157. CJ Trimber posted a 2-0 day while Ayden Sprague (149) also had his hand raised once in extra matches.
