WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — On Friday at the 90thWilkes University Open, 149-pounder TJ Martin was the lone Penn College place winner, finishing sixth, and became just the second Wildcat in program history to medal at the "Rose Bowl of College Wrestling."
Martin put together an impressive run in the consolation bracket by closing in on deficits against Jordan Brown, of Binghamton, and Chase Burke, of Lock Haven, to survive and advance. Martin, who also downed Sebastian Nini, of Rutgers, went 5-1 with four pins, including three in the first period.
Also for the Wildcats:
Kaden Ware (133) went 3-2 with a win over Major Lewis of NCAA Division I Bloomsburg.
Travis Green (165) went 3-2 with two wins over D-I opponents in Damian Weaver, of Rutgers, and Nolen Ziegler, of Bloomsburg.
Nicholai Brotzman ( 285) went 3-2 with a win by pin over Tristen Hitchcock, of Division I Army.
CJ Trimber (133) won two bouts with a highlight win over Conner Demcher of D-II Pitt-Johnstown.
Luke Heimbach (125), Ryan Trimber (141), Brett Patton (149), Anton Esterbrook (157), Zach Miller (157), Cavin Napoletano (157) and Mason Leshock (165) all earned a win each.
