WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College battled back from double-digit deficits in both halves before falling at home to Penn State Abington, 68-65, in a United East men's basketball game on Saturday. Penn College now is 4-10 in the conference and 9-14 overall. Abington is 11-4 in the UE and 17-7 overall.
How it happened: Penn State Abington opened an early 10-1 lead before the Wildcats cut the margin to four at 12-8 on a 3-point shot by
Gavin Barrett. Abington then built several 11-point leads, the last one at 26-15 with 6:33 left in the half, but Penn College used a 17-6 run, with Barrett scoring eight points and
Max Jackowsky five, to tie the score at 32 at the intermission.
In the second half, the Nittany Lions went in front by 10 (50-40) with 14:06 showing, before the Wildcats, playing on Senior Day, charged back behind Barrett's eight points and six by
Michael Woolridge, to pull within one at 66-65 after a Barrett trey with 24 seconds remaining. But that was as close as they could get.
Inside the box: Barrett ended with a game-high 28 points and seven assists for Penn College, while Jackowsky added 10 points.
Alex Podolski topped Abington with 21 points as the Nittany Lions swept the season series, 2-0.
