MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn College dropped a 70-62 decision at Penn State Harrisburg in men's basketball action on Tuesday. Penn College now is 4-11 in the United East and 9-15 overall, while Harrisburg is 11-4 UE and 14-10 overall.
How it happened: In a tightly contested first half where neither team led by more than five points, Penn College got off to a 7-3 start — with
Gavin Barrett scoring five points — before the Lions used a 7-0 run over a three-minute stretch to go in front 10-7. There were five ties before Harrisburg broke on top, 32-27, at the intermission.
Barrett brought the Wildcats back to within one at 32-31 with 18:39 left in the game before a 15-5 burst gave Harrisburg an 11-point lead at 47-36 with 13:36 showing. Scores by
Rees Watkins and Barrett cut the Wildcats' difference to five at 47-42, and twice over the last 5:05 they got to within four, at 58-54 after a traditional three-point play by
Livingston Cross and again at 62-58 after a Watkins layup with 1:24 left.
Inside the box: Barrett ended with a game-high 24 points for Penn College and he led the team with nine rebounds, while
Michael Woolridge scored 13 points. The Wildcats hit 14 of 17 free throws. Harrisburg led in rebounds, 52-35.
Chase Robinson topped Harrisburg with 12 points and Nate Curry pulled down 18 rebounds.
