ONEONTA, N.Y. – Penn College finished 1-1 at the Dragon Duals hosted by SUNY Oneonta Saturday. The Wildcats fell No. 12 RIT, 43-4, and won on criteria, 26-25, against Oneonta to improve to 11-9.
Against RIT,
Ryan Berstler gave Penn College its only win with a 10-0 major decision to open the match at 125. The Tigers picked up bonus point wins in seven of the next nine bouts.
Isaac Cory battled regionally ranked Colby Giroux at 184 before dropping a 3-1 sudden-victory decision.
Against Oneonta,
The Wildcats jumped out to 9-0 lead after Berstler's 5-2 decision at 125 and C.J. Trimber's fall at 133. The Dragons made it 9-4 with a major at 141 before
Noah Hunt's fall in 2:32 gave the Wildcats 15-4 advantage. Oneonta picked up another major at 157 to make it 15-8 before
Mason Leshock decked his opponent in 2:27 at 165 to make it 21-8, and Cory followed an Oneonta tech fall at 174 with a major decision to give PCT a 25-13 lead. The Dragons picked up a forfeit at 197 and pin at heavyweight to tie the match at 25.
Penn College gained an extra point, and its first win over Oneonta in program history, due to tiebreaker criteria No. 2 – most falls (3-2).
