MADISON, N.J. – Penn College opened the 2023 season with a 14-8 win over FDU-Florham in a nonconference men's lacrosse game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 1-0, while the Red Devils fell to 1-1.
How it happened: Penn College opened with a 3-0 lead in the first quarter after back-to-back goals from
Sam Hills and a tally by
Camden Elmo. The Wildcats went up 4-0 early in the second when Hills found
Brendan Kuczma for a man-up goal with 11:25 before the break. Florham got on the board late in the second before PCT netted a pair of scores in 15 seconds when Hills scored his third and later found
Josh O'Leary with one second left to give the Wildcats a 6-1 halftime lead.
Hills found the back of the net twice early in third before the Devils went on a 3-0 run to make it 8-5 with 3:17 left in the third. Kuczma netted his second just before the end of the period to put PCT ahead 10-6. Penn College scored five straight to open the fourth before Florham netted the final two.
Inside the box: Hills finished with five goals and three assists for Penn College and Elmo and Kuczma both finished with hat tricks.
Michael Stank was 10 of 14 on faceoffs and
Brody Borkowski went 6 of 9 at the X.
James Cella improved to 1-0 between the pipes with 18 saves.
Up next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 4 p.m., in its home opener against Marywood.
