WASHINGTON, D.C. — Penn College women's basketball team scored a 47-37 win over Gallaudet University in a United East game Friday at the Capital One Arena. The Wildcats now are 7-4 in the conference and 8-12 overall, while Gallaudet is 5-6 UE, 6-14 overall. Penn College took the season series, 2-0.
How it happened: After early ties at two and four, a trey by
Rachel Teats lifted the Wildcats to a 7-4 lead at the end of the first quarter. Gallaudet knotted the score at 13 in the second frame before Penn College went on a 13-5 run to take a 26-18 halftime lead.
In the second half, the Wildcats extended their lead to 13 points, (37-24) on a
Lexi Troup layup with 2:05 left in the third quarter, and upped it to 15 points, (43-28) on a jumper by
Ja'Quela Dyer with 6:36 showing in the fourth, before winning by 10 to give third-year coach Britni Mohney her most wins in a season both in the conference and overall play.
Inside the box: Aubrey Stetts led Penn College with 12 points and
Lexi Troup added 10. Teats grabbed nine rebounds and
Allie Troup had seven assists. Penn College outscored the Bison in points off turnovers, 17-10.
Hannah Puent topped Gallaudet with 14 points.
