Penn College splits with Lycoming

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College split a pair of nonconference baseball doubleheader against Lycoming College Tuesday. The Wildcats are 7-8 overall following a 12-4 setback in game one and a 7-3 win in the nightcap.

In game one,
Lycoming jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the second inning. An error in the third gave Penn College its first run before the Warriors made it 7-1 with three in the fourth. Nathan Gustkey made it 7-2 with a single to left in the fourth. Lycoming added three in the sixth before Jake Wagner's two-run double in sixth to made it 10-4. Lyco added a pair in the seventh.

Gustkey and Tyler Rudolph both picked up two hits to lead Penn College's offense. Jonas McGrath fell to 0-2 after 2.2 innings on the mound.

In game two,
After the Warriors took a 3-0 lead, with a run in the first and two in the top of the second, Penn College took the lead for good with four runs in the bottom of the second. Jacob Carles drew a bases loaded walk to score the first run, Shane Price smacked a two-run single to even the game, and Gustkey singled in the go-ahead run. Quinn Hannafin's three-run double in the third added insurance runs for the Wildcats.

Tristan Current and Brian Robison each picked up two hits to lead Penn College's offense and Zac Weaver improved to 3-0 after five innings on the mound. Weaver allowed three earned, on seven hits, with five strikeouts, and three walks.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Friday, 3 p.m., hosting Gallaudet.
