WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College swept a home nonconference doubleheader against Penn State Altoona, 8-4 and 6-2, on Wednesday to improve to 8-4 while PS Altoona dropped to 6-6.
How it Happened: In the opener, Altoona scored all of its runs in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats battled back with one run in the first, four in the third to go ahead, then added two in the fourth and one in the sixth.
In the nightcap, Penn College built a 4-0 lead through five innings before both teams scored twice in the sixth.
Inside the Box: Penn College began its first-game comeback when Maddie Hurst doubled and scored on Jordan Specht's single. Singles by Hurst and Specht and a walk to Mackenzie Weaver set the table in the third and Hailey DeBrody delivered with a two-run single with Weaver scoring on an error. Then, Ivvy Morder's single plated DeBrody. Specht and Weaver had RBI singles in the fourth inning and Weaver had a solo home run to complete the scoring in the sixth to finish a personal 3 for 3, two-run, two-RBI day, and as the starting pitcher earn her fourth win against two losses.
Weaver and DeBrody's hot bats continued in the second game as Weaver had an RBI single in the first inning and DeBrody ripped a two-run homer in the third before delivering a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the fifth. Jordan Specht added a two-run single in the sixth to help make a winner of starting pitcher Kyla Benner, who improved to 3-1.
