Wildcats Sweep PSU Harrisburg; Win Sixth Straight Game

MIDDLETOWN, PA - Penn College swept an important doubleheader with PSU Harrisburg on Tuesday afternoon.  With the wins Penn College (17-5, 9-1 UE) overtook PSU Harrisburg (16-8, 8-2 UE) for first place in the United East Conference.

In game one,
Maddie Hurst launched a solo home run to left in the top of the fifth to put Penn College up 1-0.  That lone run would stand for the entire game as MacKenzie Weaver continued her strong season in the circle with another complete game shutout.

The Wildcats outhit the Lions 9-2 with Hurst leading the way with a three hit effort.  Lexi Snyder and Jordan Specht added two hits apiece.  Weaver picked up her ninth win of the season (fifth by way of shutout) allowing just two hits while striking out six.

In game two,
The Wildcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead after three innings of play and held on late for a 3-2 win.  Hailey DeBrody put the Wildcats on the board with an RBI single to left that scored Ivvy MorderMadison Herriman added a second run when she plated DeBrody with an RBI single to right center.  Herriman scored the final run of the game for the Wildcats when Maddie Hurst reached base safely on an error by the short stop.

Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh-inning the Lions tying run was stranded on second when MacKenzie Weaver stymied the threat by getting the final out of the game on a ground ball to second.  Kyla Benner (7-2) got the win for the Wildcats.  Benner allowed four hits and two runs over four-innings of work.  Weaver picked up a three-inning save allowing just one hit and striking out three Lions.  Ivvy Morder went a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with one run scored.
