Wildcats clinch playoff berth with win over LBC

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College clinched a United East baseball playoff berth for the six-straight season with a 12-3 win over Lancaster Bible Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 13-4 United East, 18-5 overall.

How it happened: Penn College jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning on RBIs by Jacob Carles and Nathan Gustkey, a two-run single from Tristan Current and an LBC error. The Chargers plated one in the third and two in the fourth to get within two. Carles' sacrifice in the fourth made it 6-3 before Current smacked a three-run shot to left to give PCT a 9-3 advantage. Carles belted a two-run homerun in the eighth and Cameron Dick followed with a solo homer.

Inside the box: Quinn Hanafin finished with four hits for Penn College, Dick and Current added three, and Carles and Gustskey picked up a pair. Current batted in five runs, and was a double shy of a cycle, and Carles brought in four runs.

Ben Bretzman improved to 4-3 after six innings on the mound. He allowed two earned runs, on seven hits, with five strikeouts, and two walks.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 1 p.m., at Penn State Altoona.
