Wildcats Softball Splits in Nation's Capital

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Penn College earned a split in the Nation's capital versus Gallaudet winning game one 10-0 before losing 7-5 in five-innings in game two.  Game two was called early due to thunderstorms.  Penn College sits at 22-8 overall and 12-4 in the United East.  Gallaudet improved to 13-23 overall and 8-14 in UE.

In game one,
Penn College scored three runs in the top of the first and seven in the top of the fourth as they beat Gallaudet 10-0 in five-innings.  In the first Jordan Specht started the scoring with an RBI double to center that scored Maddie HurstMadison Herriman extended the Wildcats lead with a two-run RBI double down the left field line scoring MacKenzie Weaver and Specht.

Specht homered down the right field line in the top of the fourth to put the Wildcats up 5-0.  Lexi Snyder RBI double to right center made it 6-0, and Margaret Mangene made it 8-0 single down the right field line.

MacKenzie Weaver (12-4) picked up her sixth complete game shutout of the season in the circle.  Weaver struck out seven and allowed just three hits in five-innings pitched.  The Wildcats offense pounded out 14 hits with six batters collecting multiple hits.  Hurst finished with a team high three hits and two runs scored.

In game two,
The Wildcats opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the first-inning thanks to Lexi Snyder and Madison Herriman RBI singles.  After Gallaudet tied the score in the bottom of the third-inning, the Wildcats scored two runs on another Snyder RBI single and a double steal of second and home.  Leading 5-4 in the bottom of the fifth-inning and rain approaching Gallaudet plated three runs to take a 7-5 lead.  The game was called in the top of the sixth and based on the score after five innings of play Gallaudet was declared the winner.

Johanna Devore (2-1), took the loss in the circle allowing 11 hits and seven earned runs.  Snyder finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 from the plate with two-RBI's and a run scored. 

Penn College returns to action on Tuesday when they host PSU Harrisburg in a United East doubleheader.  First pitch from Elm Park is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
