WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College swept a United East softball doubleheader against Penn State Harrisburg Tuesday. The Wildcats improved to 14-4 United East, 24-8 overall after a 7-0 win in the first game and a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.
In game one,
Singles from Mackenzie Weaver and Jaylin Cochran put Penn College ahead 2-0 after the first inning and
Jordan Specht made it 3-0 in the third with a single to center.
Madison Shaffer gave PCT a 4-0 lead on a single in the sixth,
Maddie Hurst made it 5-0 with a sacrifice, and
Jordan Specht launched a two-run homer to center.
Specht finished with three hits and Cochran added a pair.
Weaver hurled a no-hitter through six innings before surrendering a pair in the seventh. She finished with six strikeouts and one walk to improve to 13-3.
In game two,
Shaffer put the Wildcats on the board with a two-run double to center in the second inning. Harrisburg made it a one-run game in the top of the fifth before Penn College exploded with seven in the bottom of the inning to end the game.
Specht belted her second homerun of the day, this one a solo shot to center, and Weaver plated
Ivvy Morder – who legitimately tripled – to make it 4-1. Cochran's single to right brought in a run, Shaffer's single to right brought in two more before a Hurst double and a Specht single scored the final two runs.
Specht finished with three hits, while Weaver, Cochran, and Shaffer added a pair. Shaffer batted in a game-high four runs.
Kyla Benner improved to 9-3 after five innings in the circle. She allowed one earned, on three hits, with seven strikeouts, and four walks.
Up next: Penn College returns to action Thursday, 3 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday but was moved due to the impending weather forecast.
