WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College swept a United East softball doubleheader Saturday against Lancaster Bible College and improved to 7-1 UE, 15-5 overall. The Wildcats won game one 7-4 before taking the nightcap 8-3.
In game one,
The Chargers jumped out to a 4-1 lead through the top of the fifth –
Hailey DeBrody's single in the fourth plated the Wildcats' first run - before Penn College added a pair in the bottom of the frame and four in the sixth.
Jordan Specht's sacrifice in the fifth made it 4-2 and
Johanna Devore's single to left pulled PCT within one, 4-3. DeBrody tied the game with a single in the sixth before
Maddie Hurst and Specht brought in insurance runs.
Mackenzie Weaver finished with three hits for Penn College, while Hurst, Specht, and DeBrody picked up a pair of hits.
Weaver improved to 8-2 in the circle. She allowed one earned, on four hits, with seven strikeouts, and two walks.
In game two,
After the Chargers took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first, Penn College added one in the bottom of the first and six in the second inning. Specht's single brought in a run in the first, while Maggie Mangene, Devore,
Ivvy Morder had RBIs in the second and
Kyla Benner smacked a two-run double. Bible added a run in the fourth before
Lexi Snyder plated PCT's final run in the sixth with a single.
Specht and
Ivvy Morder both finished with three hits for Penn College, while Devore and Benner added a pair of hits.
Benner improved to 6-2 after six innings of work. She allowed three earned, on five hits, with four strikeouts, and one walk.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 3 p.m., at Penn State Harrisburg.
