WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College rallied to a 3-1 victory in its home opener against Mount Aloysius on Tuesday night inside Bardo Gymnasium. The victory marked the third-straight positive outcome of the season, pushing the Wildcats' record to 3-4. The Mounties fall to 2-7.
How it happened: Mount Aloysius claimed the first set of the match, 25-14, before the home Wildcats stormed back to win the next three sets including a 28-26 thriller in the fourth game.
The momentum in set three proved to be the difference in the match after the Wildcats fell behind 8-2, Penn College benefited from a service error from the Mounties and went on a 22-7 run including 12-straight to win the set. PCT hit .261 in the third frame with nine kills and five aces.
Set four tilted back-and-forth between the two sides as the Wildcats and Mounties endured nine ties and five lead changes. Penn College fought back from a seven-point deficit (15-8) before tying the set five different times and finally wrestling the lead away for good with the final two points from
Marianna Dariychuk and
Lauren Hergert.
Inside the box: Dariychuk led the squad with 19.5 points (16 kills) while Hergert finished with 15 points (9 kills) and
Cheyenne Stein added 10 points and a team-high 28 assists.
PCT outhit the Mounties .154 to .108 and caused 21 attack errors from the visitors.
Up next: Penn College will try to extend its winning streak on Friday, Sept. 15, with a trip to Elmira College at 6 p.m.
