WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. –
Kaelynn Sheetz and
Sara Darlington both scored a pair of goals to lead Penn College to a 4-1 win over Penn State Altoona in a nonconference women's soccer match Wednesday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats remained unbeaten and improved to 4-0-4, while the Nittany Lions fell to 0-6-1.
Sheetz' two goals Wednesday totaled 36 for her career and surpassed Hailee Hartman's '17 previous record of 35 career scores.
How it happened: Altoona struck first in the 19
th minute to take a 1-0 lead before Darlington netted the equalizer in the 26
th minute on her first goal of the season, and teams remained deadlocked at the break.
Sheetz made it 2-1 in the 47
th minute when she deposited a pass from
Piper Minier to the left side of the goal. Darlington added an insurance goal in the 55
th minute after she belted a left-footed shot from the top of the box, and Sheetz broke the record in the 69
th minute on a right-to-left shot for her 11
th goal of the season.
Inside the box: Penn College outshot the Lions, 18-4, and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.
Nicole Lichtinger improved to 4-0-2 after stopping two shots in goal.
