Sheetz breaks goal record in win over Altoona

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Kaelynn Sheetz and Sara Darlington both scored a pair of goals to lead Penn College to a 4-1 win over Penn State Altoona in a nonconference women's soccer match Wednesday at UPMC Field. The Wildcats remained unbeaten and improved to 4-0-4, while the Nittany Lions fell to 0-6-1.

Sheetz' two goals Wednesday totaled 36 for her career and surpassed Hailee Hartman's '17 previous record of 35 career scores.

How it happened: Altoona struck first in the 19th minute to take a 1-0 lead before Darlington netted the equalizer in the 26th minute on her first goal of the season, and teams remained deadlocked at the break.

Sheetz made it 2-1 in the 47th minute when she deposited a pass from Piper Minier to the left side of the goal. Darlington added an insurance goal in the 55th minute after she belted a left-footed shot from the top of the box, and Sheetz broke the record in the 69th minute on a right-to-left shot for her 11th goal of the season.

Inside the box: Penn College outshot the Lions, 18-4, and held a 5-0 advantage on corner kicks.

Nicole Lichtinger improved to 4-0-2 after stopping two shots in goal.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Saturday, 3:30 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks.
