Wildcats win fourth straight with shutout over Berks

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Cooper Smith's penalty kick in the 74th minute lifted Penn College to a 1-0 win over Penn State Berks in a United East men's soccer match Saturday. The Wildcats won their fourth-straight game and improved to 1-0 United East, 5-2-1 overall, while the Lions fell to 0-1, 0-4-2.

How it happened: Following a scoreless first half, a Berks penalty in the box setup Smith's PK attempt in the 74th minute. The sophomore sent his attempt to the right side to put the Wildcats ahead 1-0.

Penn College sent three other shots on target in the second half, but Logan Stapleton's header in the 58th and back-to-back shots in the 72nd minute from Logan Confer and Jacob Everhart, were turned away.

Dylan Daily nearly gave the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute but his shot hit the crossbar.

Inside the box: Penn College outshot Berks, 22-5, and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Cole Catherman earned the shutout win in goal for the Wildcats.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 7 p.m., hosting King's College.
