HAMPTON, Va. — Penn College split on day one of the Virginia Duals Friday at the Hampton Coliseum to improve to 5-3 on the season.
Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni led the squad, going a perfect 2-0 with two falls at 197 pounds.
The Wildcats started the day suffering a defeat to No. 6 seed and NCAA Division II King University. Kaden Ware (133), Noah Hunt (141) and Gabriel Kennedy-Citeroni picked up bonus-point wins before the team fell, 31-15.
Later in the day, Penn College responded by winning 10 out of 10 bouts en route to a 51-0 win over Camden County Community College as Luke Heimbach (125), CJ Trimber (133), Patrick Snoke (141), TJ Martin (149), Liam Goodrich (157), Cavin Napoletano (165), Travis Green (174), Andy Muzika (184), Kennedy-Citeroni and Nicholai Brotzman (285) put points on the board to help the Wildcats advance on the backside of the bracket.
Penn College opens the second and final day Saturday against The Apprentice School at 3 p.m. and its final round will begin at 6 p.m. with the opponent and placement to be determined.
