WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College women's basketball dropped a 71-57 decision to United East Volt Division leader Gallaudet on Saturday. The Wildcats fall to 1-5 in conference contests (5-14 overall) while the Bison moves to 5-1 (12-6 overall).
How it happened: The Wildcats came out firing in the first quarter with back-to-back threes from
Lexi Troup and
Rachel Teats put the home team ahead 8-6. Troup hit another three and
Emily Pardee put in a layup as the 'Cats went up 13-10 midway through the first. A Teats floater made it a five-point game, 17-12, with two minutes remaining before
Mia Patterson closed out the quarter with a pair of baskets and a 21-17 lead.
A 22-7 second quarter by the Bison flipped the game's momentum. Troup drained her third triple of the afternoon two minutes into the second quarter to keep the Wildcats up by five, 24-19, before Gallaudet started mounting it run for a 39-28 lead at the half.Â
Starting midway through the third quarter, Penn College went on a 10-2 run to get back within 10 (52-42) after Patterson cashed in two from the free throw line. Patterson continued the momentum into the fourth quarter as she helped the Wildcats get within seven, 56-49, with eight minutes to go, but it would be the closest the Wildcats could get to upsetting the Bison.
Inside the box: Four Wildcats finished in double figures, led by Teat's 17.
Lexi Troup scored 14 while Pardee added 12 and Patterson notched 10 off the bench. The Wildcats shot 49.0% (24-49) from the field.
